Does the insurance have to be taken out before the start of the trip?

In general the insurance must be taken out before the start of the trip! You also have the option, however, of applying for insurance up to 365 days after the start of the trip. For this purpose we require proof of prior insurance coverage directly preceding the coverage you are applying for. If you cannot provide proof of this prior coverage, the general waiting period of 31 days comes into effect. This does not apply to accidents that occur after the commencement of coverage.

What should be taken into account if insured persons wish to have pre-existing conditions covered?

During the application process, the insurer will ask questions to find out the current state of health of the person to be insured. Insurable pre-existing conditions are also covered by adding an individual risk surcharge to the affordable basic premium. If the risk surcharge is not approved, the phrasing of a benefit exclusion can be examined in individual cases.

When are the insurance premiums due? When are they collected?

IIn general, the first premium payment is due at the start of coverage specified in the insurance policy. Therefore, if you have chosen the payment method "bank transfer," you must ensure that the premium is paid on time yourself.

Since the issuing of the policy is always preceded by an application check and the application can be rejected, the following applies if you have selected the "direct debit" or "credit card/PayPal" payment methods:

In the case of a direct debit, we will debit the premium payments on the respective due date from the account you have provided, i.e. not until the commencement of coverage—even if this is in the future—and of course only if the application has been accepted. Therefore, in order to ensure you have uninterrupted coverage, always make sure you have sufficient funds in your account at this time.

If you pay by credit card/PayPal, the single or annual premium (depending on your selected method of payment) will be debited from your credit card account shortly after the application has been accepted, even if the commencement of coverage is in the future.

What must be considered when extending a policy?

If you would like to have Care Expatriate insurance coverage beyond the original duration of coverage, please use our online application form for follow-up coverage at https://www.care-concept.de/krankenversicherung/auslandskrankenversicherung/auslandskrankenversicherung_care_expatriate_antrag.php
Depending on the end date of the insurarance coverage originally applied for, a higher monthly premium may also be payable if your follow-up policy is accepted. The decisive factor here is the age of the respective insured person at the time of the original end of coverage and the insurance premium rate at that time, according to the age scale. Example: a 39-year-old woman requires insurance coverage (Care Expatriate Comfort, 150 EUR deductible) in USA, Canada and Mexiko for an initial period of three years and pays a monthly premium of 225 EUR during this period. Shortly before the end of the period, she decides to extend her commitment abroad and applies for follow-up coverage for a further 2 years. She is then 42 years old when her originally coverage ends. If follow-up coverage is approved, she then pays 265 EUR from the beginning of the extended coverage.
Every application for follow-up coverage is to be regarded as a new application; it will be reassessed and may therefore be rejected under certain circumstances. In this respect, there is no guarantee that the follow-up policy will be approved.

Does the insured person have to indicate any employment carried out that was not stated when the application was submitted?

Yes. In order to ensure or be able to check that insurance coverage will continue to exist for this person while new employment is pursued, the insured person must notify CCAG of any new type of employment.
The notification can be made in any written form (e-mail, fax, letter) to Care Concept AG, stating the following:

  • the policy number,
  • the insured person(s),
  • the date of birth of the insured person(s) and
  • the new type of employment.
How and when can I terminate my coverage?

An early termination must be submitted in writing (My Care concept Customer portal, e-mail, post, FAX), there are, however, no formal guidelines that need to be fulfilled in your written request of termination. We need the following information in order to process your request: the policy number, the insured person’s name, the original end date of coverage, the requested termination date, the reason for termination and, if applicable, proof of departure. The repayment of any overpaid insurance premiums is possible with a deduction of a 5 EUR processing fee.

Early termination is possible when:

  1. the stay abroad is terminated prematurely;
  2. the preconditions for the stay abroad no longer apply; and
  3. you are subject to public health insurance coverage.
  4. When the entry visa is not granted or the entry into the country does not take place for other reasons, the written cancellation of the application is possible before the intended start of coverage.
Is there a right to or the possibility of taking out a follow-up policy once the maximum duration of coverage has been reached or in the case of a return to Germany?

Yes, at the Care Expatriate Comfort and Care Expatriate Premium rates, there is a one-time acceptance guarantee of a 5-year follow-up policy if the maximum duration of coverage of 5 years was selected at the time of initially taking out the coverage and the country of destination is outside Germany. Within the scope of this acceptance guarantee, a risk surcharge limited to a maximum of 100% of the then valid premium rate is guaranteed. In addition, the Care Expatriate Comfort and Care Expatriate Premium rates also include a guaranteed right to continued insurance coverage within the scope of the "Mini" comprehensive health insurance plan with HanseMerkur Krankenversicherung AG, during stays in Germany and after returning from abroad. Here, too, a maximum risk surcharge of 100% of the then valid premium rate is guaranteed.
