International health insurance
Care Expat World

You can take out international health insurance with Care Expat World for stays anywhere in the world. Your nationality does not matter. The only restriction is that we cannot insure you in the country of your nationality.

You can apply for International health insurance up to the age of 65. Your age of entry is calculated as the difference between the current calendar year and your year of birth as of 1 January each year. For example: If you turn 65 in June of a given year, you are already considered to be 65 from 1 January of that year.

You can also apply if you are already living abroad.

Yes, you can change your Country Zone on the 1st of any month. Please inform us in good time. Important: treatments that were already recommended or planned before the Country Zone change are excluded from coverage in a higher Country Zone (e.g. switching from Country Zone 1 to Zone 2). Care Expat World offers three country zones:

• Country Zone 1: Worldwide excluding China, Singapore and USA
• Country Zone 2: Worldwide including China and Singapore, excluding USA
• Country Zone 3: Worldwide including China, Singapore and USA

If you are insured under Country Zone 1, you are also covered for medical emergencies for up to 42 days in Country Zone 2 and 3. The same applies to Country Zone 3 if you are insured under Country Zone 2.

In general, you can change your coverage level or deductible level once per calendar year, effective 1 January.

When switching to a lower coverage level (e.g. from Premium to Comfort) or when changing your deductible level, no new health interview is required. If you wish to switch to a higher coverage level (e.g. from Basic to Comfort), we will conduct a new health interview with you via video call.

For Care Expat World international health insurance, we conduct a health interview with you via video call. This gives us a good picture of your health and allows us to decide quickly whether we can cover any pre-existing conditions. If necessary, we may agree on risk surcharges or a benefit exclusion for a pre-existing condition.

Certain treatments under Care Expat World international health insurance are subject to waiting periods. This means these services can only be used after the waiting period has elapsed:

• For pregnancy and childbirth, there is generally a waiting period of 10 months. The waiting period does not apply to unforeseen pregnancy complications up to week 36.
• For dental prosthetics and orthodontics, the waiting period is 10 months, unless the treatment is required due to an accident. In that case, the waiting period does not apply.
• For correction of a visual defect (LASIK), a waiting period of two full calendar years always applies.
