The maximum duration of coverage - including all possible extensions - is two years. In the case of extensions, the difference between the premium for the period originally chosen and that for the newly requested period is then payable as a differential premium/sum.
Will the policy be extended automatically?

The insurance policy expires at the agreed upon point in time. There is no automatic extension.

What must be considered when extending a policy?

Requests for policy extensions must be submitted before the end of the duration of coverage originally requested. Requests for extensions must be submitted in writing (e-mail, regular post, fax). You can find the appropriate form here.

  • In the case of policy extensions, insurance coverage is only provided for those insured events and symptoms that newly arose after the policy extension was applied for.
  • In the case of an extension, the premium is always calculated on the basis of the entire period of coverage. The payment already made for the original period is taken into account. An example: for an originally applied for duration of coverage of 30 days/premium 30.00 EUR.
  • In the case of an extension to 100 days total period of coverage, 73.50 EUR would be due (103.50 EUR less 30.00 EUR).
How, and in which cases, is it possible to terminate the policy?

If you end your stay abroad prematurely, you can terminate your policy in writing.
If you are refused a visa or do not enter the country due to other reasons, you have the option of terminating the insurance applied for in writing before coverage begins.

How do I obtain my confirmation of coverage online?

Shortly after you have completed and sent your online application, you will, after your application has been approved, receive a confirmation email to the email address you provided. This email contains the following documents in PDF format, which you can print out and use:

  • confirmation of coverage
  • medical treatment certificates
  • the insurance terms and conditions, including consumer information, an information sheet about data processing and an excerpt from the German Insurance Act (VVG)

Furthermore, within two working days (with a duration of coverage of 120 days or more) you will receive your confirmation of coverage with your insurance card. If you should pay by bank transfer, you will also receive your invoice at the same time.
Should your application be denied, we will contact you in writing within two working days.

Is it possible to pay the premiums via bank transfer instead of having them debited directly?

You may transfer the full premium amount to the account listed below, grant a SEPA direct debiting authorization or make a cash payment at any bank or post office bank. Please make sure you include the complete policy number whenever you make a transfer or cash payment.
The simplest and securest method is to grant a SEPA direct debiting authorization. Unfortunately, however, this is only possible for German and Austrian bank accounts. If you should decide to grant SEPA direct debiting authorization, please make sure that your account holds sufficient funds.

If you have not yet opened an account, you can make a cash payment at any bank or post office bank and provide your policy number in the space “reason for payment.”

With monthly payments (for periods of coverage of at least 180 days), however, you do not have the option of paying by bank transfer, as monthly payments are only possible with a SEPA direct debit mandate.
Bank account: Hypovereinsbank AG, IBAN: DE23200300000000111161 SWIFT code (BIC): HYVEDEMM300

Can I pay the premiums monthly instead of all at once?

Monthly payments are an alternative to a one-time payment for a period of coverage of at least 180 days, as long as you issue us a SEPA direct debit mandate at the same time.
The monthly premium for periods from 180 to 365 days is EUR 50.00 per month for persons up to the age of 64, EUR 126.00 per month for persons between 65 and 74 years of age. The monthly premium for a duration of coverage from 366 to 730 days is EUR 75.00 per month for persons up to the age of 64, EUR 242.00 per month for persons between 65 and 74 years of age. The one-time and monthly payment options are the only options available with Care Economy insurance coverage.

Please enter the maximum number of days the visitor intends to stay in Germany as the 'duration of coverage'. If there is a change, please inform us by letter, fax or e-mail. You can extend your coverage in accordance with the policy terms and conditions or terminate it in writing at the end of the month.

Will I receive proof of my health insurance coverage for presentation to the Immigration Office?

As soon as we have received your application and determined we can insure you, you will receive confirmation of coverage by e-mail within a few minutes and, with periods of coverage 120 days or more, we will also send it to you via regular mail.
